Keynote Speakers

Through a long career with Procter and Gamble pharmaceuticals, Ed developed a singular expertise in marketing and branding, culminating in his appointment in 1999 as one of only ten active Harley Procter Marketers for his role in doubling the P&G Pharmaceutical business unit sales and quadrupling its profit. (This global, competitive appointment is awarded by the CEO and Chief Marketing Officer to those considered Masters in the practical application of marketing theory.) Currently he is the Executive Director of the Ohio Business Development Coalition; and CEO of The Burghard Group LLC, an organization dedicated to applying private sector product and corporate branding principles to the branding of places.

In her role as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Document Management Division, Karen has a team of 1,800 employee-partners in over 80 North American locations. This year, Karen celebrated her 31 st Anniversary with Cintas where she has held the positions of Vice President and Treasurer, Vice President of Corporate Development (M&A) and from 2008, President & COO of the Document Management Division. Karen’s awards and community service include: Cintas Excalibur Award (rewarding attitude, performance, loyalty); YWCA Career Woman of Achievement (2009); Woman of Excellence (2008/ West Chester Liberty Chamber Alliance); Founding Family of the Community Foundation (CFWCL); and Founding member of the Women’s Giving Circle (CFWCL). From Staff Accountant in 1979 to her current Officer role in “Cintas DMD”, Karen’s legacy is her servant leadership approach, characterizing the dedication with which she makes a profound difference among her management colleagues, employee-partners, and the community.

After completing a B.S. in Chemical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, and an MBA at the University of Michigan, Mr. Habbert rose through the ranks of Procter and Gamble, accumulating a broad knowledge of manufacturing and product development. A desire to apply his large company experience to smaller company advantage led him to his current career as a small business consultant and “Angel investor”, shareholder in over twenty-five small companies and Board Member of six. He is an active member of the Queen City Angels and is Director of the QCA First Funds – three small State-sponsored technology validation funds that make seed investments in very early-stage companies.

At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tom received both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1989; later, he graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard University. Tom joined Wood, Herron & Evans in 1993. He has served as Chairman of the Cincinnati Bar Association’s Computer and High Technology Law Committee. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. As a Partner with Wood, Herron & Evans, Tom is involved in all phases of the firm’s practice, with concentration on electronic, software and computer technologies. He has lectured on patent, copyright and trade secret law at Xavier University’s College of Business Administration, Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law, and at various legal education seminars. Tom was named as one of the Ohio Super Lawyers – 2006 Rising Stars – by Law and Politics Media. He resides in Glendale, Ohio with his wife Susan and their two children.

John is an internationally recognized, award winning business author. In a new novel, The Chinese Conspiracy, he merges an exciting fictional premise with the factual reality of America’s risk from Cyber-Attacks to create a cautionary thriller. His last book, The Complexity Crisis was chosen as one of 2008’s Best Business Books and also one of 2008’s Best Books for Small Business. When he isn’t writing, Mr. Mariotti presents Keynote speeches, serves on several corporate boards, and advises companies on business strategy and its execution.

Bob is currently Vice President of Sales for Cintas’ Emerging Businesses (including First Aid & Safety and Document Management), and has 25 years of experience with the company. During his career he has gathered a deep understanding of personnel management in Cintas Operations, Marketing/Business Strategy, Sales and Sales Leadership capacities. Bob has served on the National Board of Directors for Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) since 2007. His charitable activities include the United Way and Matthew 25 Ministries. Bob, his wife Nancy, and four daughters live in Anderson Township, Ohio.

Doug has been publisher of the Business Courier since August 2000. A 25-year veteran of the newspaper business, Doug began his career as a newspaper reporter and worked at the Cincinnati/Kentucky Post for five years. Doug first started working for the Courier in 1987. He was named Editor of the Courier in 1996, and was promoted to Publisher of the Dayton Business Journal in 1997. A native of Piqua, Ohio, Doug received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Morehead State University. He and his wife, Kateri, have a daughter, Marian, who is a senior nursing student at the University of Kentucky.

After schooling at BYU, Pamla Winther’s career in communications was developed through her International experience with French-based ALCATEL, as Sales and Marketing Director; with Copenhagen-based Danish Management Forum, as Deputy Director; and with the AIA/U.S. Ambassador to Denmark R.N.Swett, as Subcontractor for mounting and executing in Denmark, AIA’s Intl. Symposium “Design Diplomacy: Public Policy and the Practice of Architecture”. In 1996 based upon her experience from the prior decade, Pamla began crafting (to the benefit of those for whom she consulted) the Hands On Proactive Strategy-HOPS®!, a methodology for empowering how business people communicate and collaborate for impressive results and sustained performance. HOPS® is Pamla Winther’s contribution to the business arena, whereas personal time is devoted to encouraging her son, college Freshman Jason; to working with Single Adults for their development and growth (DFS, and LDS Singles); and to serving in Assisted Living Centers via music (Eastside Flute Troupe).
